ANURAG GOEL
Anurag is a former civil servant, who had 42 years plus association with government in various critical assignments and as competition regulator. He has two global firsts to his credit: a) being the key instrument in saving Satyam Computers Ltd in 2009, after a major fraud (US $ 1.50 billion), the one and the only such case in the world, and b) creating the first model & strategic architecture in the world for implementation of SDGs, which was appreciated by the UN Secretary General himself. He also has two national firsts to his credit: a) successfully introducing MCA-21, the first major e-governance system in the country, and b) designing India’s first comprehensive Future-Ready Governance initiative, at the request of Lt. Governor J & K, Sri Manoj Sinha.
Anurag Goel joined the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in 1972, and superannuated in 2009 as Secretary, Ministry of Corporate affairs; after working in six ministries in Government of India, and serving in various key assignments in the State of Uttar Pradesh. This was followed by a 5-year term as Member, Competition Commission of India. He received numerous awards during his service period, including i) Prime Minister Award for Excellence in Public Administration, ii) Data Quest & other awards for MCA-21 initiative, iii) National Citizens’ Award for outstanding contribution in the field of civil aviation, iv) International Quality Summit Award for Excellence and Business Prestige as CMD/CEO, Pawan Hans Helicopters Ltd., and v) Distinguished Fellow, Institute of Directors, New Delhi.
For the last decade, Mr Goel has been a passionate Futurist & Governance Architect, immersed in exponential technologies. During this period, he has been Adviser to UNDP, Govt. of Assam (AASC), IIM, Kashipur, IIT, Jodhpur etc. for periods varying from 3 to 5 years; and associated with S & T related institutions/ work, including as Adviser, CSIR Institute of Genomics & IB, Chairman, Working Group of Deptt. of Science & Technology (DST, GoI) for Rs 3,500 crore National Mission on ICPS, and advising TIFAC, DST in preparing Technology Vision 2047 ( for India@2047). He has also been providing pro bono advice to other governments/ institutions, like Govt. of Jammu & Kashmir, Govt. of Rajasthan, DST, GoI etc. through the think-tank “Shaping Tomorrow “ he set up in 2014 to “ Invent the Future”.
In 2023 Mr Goel, joined National Law University, Meghalaya as Professor/ Mentor, and started working on futuristic models of higher education institutions with digital twins. He is also leading advocacy work with schools for help transition to the schools of the future, and work with Indian Masterminds to create/ post the webseries “ AI & Beyond: Humanity at Crossroads “ and short 5 minute read articles, like in the series “ The Never Before Future “, apart from forging partnerships with NGOs to create a community of people concerned about the future. He has also joined as a Member of the Core Group of IC Centre of Governance, New Delhi. Creating a model for a futuristic “Virtual University”, in partnership with Indian and foreign experts, is one of his key current initiatives.
